History
In the early 19th century, some collies were imported to Australia and bred with other types of dog (and possibly the Dingo). The aim was to keep the dogs being able to work with sheep without the need of direct supervision in a hot, harsh landscape.
Look of the Australian Kelpie
The Australian Kelpie stands around 17-20 inches tall depending on sex. The muzzle should be a little shorter than the slightly rounded skull. The widely spaced ears stand to a point. They are slightly longer than tall, for example if measuring in a straight line, the withers and then length between the breastbone and the buttocks, the ratio should be roughly 10 to 9. The coat should be straight, weather proof, flat and short and is available in black, blue, tan or red all with or without tan markings. Large white markings are a disqualifications when registering with a kennel club.
